    ITIN Application (W-7) 

    ITIN Application (W-7) 

    Use form W-7 www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf  to apply for an IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). An ITIN is a nine-digit number issued by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to individuals who are required for U.S. tax purposes to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have and are not eligible to get a social security number (SSN).
    The W-7 application goes attach to your tax return, here is a list of requirements that you must to know:
  • W-7 application is file for each individual and dependent.
  • Original documents must go with the application
  • The process take 6 weeks to process the W-7 application
  • Other 6 weeks after ITIN is been provide for the tax refund
  • The ITIN for dependents, children under 16 years old  does not qualify for the Additional Child Credit, unless you can provide supporting documents that the child lives with you at least 6 months in the United States country.
  • ITIN for dependents that live at Mexico, can be have a dependent exemption only if you can provide more of 50% financial support.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS NEED FOR THE W-7 APPLICATION:

  • Unexpired Passport, or
  • Birth Certificate
  • Identification form with picture and unexpired date.

If is a minor under 14 years old 
  • Birth Certificate
  • School records, not older than 12 months from the date of the W-7 application, the school record consists of an official report card or transcript issued by the school, and signed by the school official, the record must be dated and contain the student’s name, course work with grades, and date of grading periods, school name and address.

If is a minor under 6 years old
  • Birth Certificate
  • Medical records, it will consist only of a shot/immunization record which documents the patient’s name and dates of the medical history and care. The record must contain the child’s name, date of birth, and verifiable address. In addition, the medical record must document the name, address and phone number of the doctor, clinic or hospital where treatment was last administered.
